Saturn Retrograde: Dates for 2025–2028 and What It Actually Changes
Saturn is retrograde July 26 – December 10, 2026, backing up through Aries. Dates through 2028, why it happens every single year — and what it actually changes.
On July 26, 2026, Saturn appears to stop dead at 14°45′ Aries and spend the next four and a half months sliding backwards, turning around on December 10 at 7°56′ Aries. If you arrived here from a headline promising karmic reckoning, here is the single most useful fact about Saturn retrograde, up front: it happens every single year. Saturn spends about 37% of its time retrograde — more than a third of your life so far has happened under one. Whatever a Saturn retrograde does, you have survived dozens.
That doesn’t make it meaningless; it makes it ordinary, and ordinary things deserve calmer manuals. Here are the dates — computed with the same engine that builds this site’s birth charts — and the honest version of what to do with them.
The dates
| Year | Stations retrograde (UT) | Stations direct (UT) |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | July 13 at 1°56′ Aries | November 28 at 25°09′ Pisces |
| 2026 | July 26 at 14°45′ Aries | December 10 at 7°56′ Aries |
| 2027 | August 9 at 27°53′ Aries | December 24 at 21°01′ Aries |
| 2028 | August 22 at 11°19′ Taurus | January 5, 2029 at 4°25′ Taurus |
Notice the drift: each year’s retrograde begins about two weeks later and thirteen degrees further along than the last. That’s Saturn’s ~29-year lap showing through the annual rhythm. The 2025 edition backed all the way out of Aries into Pisces; the 2026 one stays inside Aries from start to finish, patrolling the 8°–15° corridor.
Why every single year
Retrograde is an overtaking illusion, covered in full in the retrograde explainer: Saturn isn’t reversing, Earth is lapping it. We circle the Sun in one year; Saturn takes 29.4. So roughly every 378 days Earth comes up on Saturn’s inside and passes it, and for the ~4½ months around that pass, Saturn appears to back up against the stars.
The pass is centred on opposition — Saturn exactly opposite the Sun, rising at sunset, up all night, as close and bright as it gets. Saturn retrograde season is, quite literally, Saturn observing season; the next opposition falls in the heart of this retrograde. The period the headlines dress in dread is the one stretch of the year you can actually go outside and look at the subject.
What it actually changes
Saturn’s departments are structure, commitment, boundaries and long-haul work. The traditional reading of its retrograde is review mode for structures: the contracts, obligations and self-imposed rules acquired during the direct months get re-inspected. Progress on long projects doesn’t stop; it shifts from laying new bricks to checking the mortar in the last course laid.
Because Saturn is slow background weather, most of a given retrograde passes unnoticed. It concentrates into felt experience at exactly two kinds of moments:
- The stations. The days around July 26 and December 10, 2026, when Saturn is parked and pressing longest on one degree — these bookends are when Saturn themes (deadlines, structural decisions, the word no) tend to get loud.
- The three-pass zone in your own chart. Anything you have between 7°56′ and 14°45′ of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) gets a conjunction, square or opposition from Saturn three times — direct, retrograde, direct again — with the slow middle pass landing in autumn 2026. That’s not doom; it’s the same lesson administered thoroughly instead of once.
The three-pass mechanic is also why this retrograde matters enormously to one cohort: anyone born April 1996 – June 1998 with natal Saturn at 8°–15° Aries is having the retrograde pass of their first Saturn return this year — the middle exam of the three.
What it doesn’t change
Your natal Saturn — sign, house and aspects stay the baseline your whole life, transit weather notwithstanding. And a natal Saturn retrograde, which about 37% of everyone has, is not a karmic debt sentence, whatever the more theatrical corners of the internet say: it’s read as internalised discipline, rules you enforce on yourself before anyone else can. Any interpretation that pathologises over a third of humanity has told you more about its author than about Saturn. (This site’s chart wheel doesn’t badge retrograde planets — the sign, house and aspects carry the reading.)
Nor does the retrograde suspend ordinary Saturn business. People sign leases, defend theses and get promoted under retrograde Saturn constantly — a third of all such milestones happen there by simple arithmetic. The transit describes the texture of the work (auditing, consolidating, finishing) rather than permission to do it.
How to use it
- Before July 26: whatever long-term structure you’ve been meaning to commit to — the contract, the course, the training plan — signing while Saturn is direct is the tidy-calendar option, not a survival requirement.
- July 26 – December 10: consolidation season. Finish the half-built things, renegotiate the obligations that no longer fit, and let deadlines do their honest work. If something structural cracks in this window, note that it was probably load-bearing on paper only.
- After December 10: Saturn re-covers the same degrees one final time, forward — through mid-March 2027 — sealing whatever the review concluded. Decisions that still stand then tend to stay stood.
Want to know which house of your chart hosts this year’s inspection? That depends on where 8°–15° Aries falls in your wheel — calculate your birth chart (free, in-browser, no account) and find it. The daily horoscope will flag the station days as they arrive, and the Saturn guide covers what the inspector is like when he’s not walking backwards. And to place this retrograde in the context of the whole year, the 2027 retrograde calendar lists every planet’s stations on one page.
Dates on this page are computed with this site’s ephemeris, not copied. Saturn stations retrograde again on August 9, 2027 — the table above has you covered through the 2028 season.
Reading about charts is one thing — seeing your own is another. It takes about thirty seconds.
