Why birth time matters for your Rising sign
The Rising sign, also called the ascendant, describes your first approach to the world in Western astrology. It is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the place and time of your birth. It is not another name for your Sun sign.
The horizon changes throughout the day, so this calculation needs an actual birth time. A birth certificate or hospital record may help. If the time is approximate, treat the result with care, especially near a sign boundary. If the time is unknown, a Moon sign or a chart without houses is a better place to start.
- Enter the local clock time at your birth, without converting it yourself.
- Select your birth city so its time zone can be applied.
- An unknown birth time cannot produce a dependable Rising sign.
