Full Moon & New Moon Calendar 2026–2027: Dates, Times, and Signs

Every new moon and full moon from July 2026 through December 2027 — exact dates and times, each Moon's zodiac sign, the eclipses hiding among them, and how to actually use a lunation. Computed with the same ephemeris engine that draws our birth charts.

A lunation calendar is the oldest piece of practical astrology there is: for most of human history, “what does the sky say” meant “where is the Moon in her cycle.” The table below lists every new moon and full moon from July 2026 through the end of 2027 — the exact instant, the zodiac sign the Moon occupies, and the eclipses hiding among the ordinary lunations.

One thing to know about these numbers: we didn’t copy them from an almanac. Every timestamp on this page was computed with the same VSOP87 ephemeris engine that draws the birth charts on this site, then cross-checked against published eclipse data. Times are in UT (Universal Time) — a lunation is a single instant shared by the whole planet, so add or subtract your own offset (New York is UT−4 in summer, Delhi UT+5:30, Sydney UT+10). Near midnight, that can move the calendar date by a day.

What a new moon and a full moon actually mark

The Moon takes about 29.5 days to lap the Sun — the synodic month, the cycle behind the word “month” itself. A new moon is the conjunction: Moon and Sun at the same ecliptic longitude, the lunar disc invisible against the glare. Astrologers read it as the start line of the cycle — low visibility, low energy, the natural moment to decide what the next month is for. A full moon is the opposition, 180° later and about 14¾ days on: maximum light, maximum visibility. Whatever was seeded at the new moon is now out in the open — which is why full moons have a reputation for culminations, revelations and the occasional dramatic exit.

None of this is a switch that flips at the printed minute. It is a rhythm — closer to a fortnightly review meeting than a spell. (And to the naked eye the Moon looks convincingly full the night before and after the instant; the timestamp matters for astrology, not for moongazing.)

What gives each lunation its particular flavour is the sign it happens in. A full moon in Pisces and a full moon in Aries culminate in completely different registers — one dissolves, the other detonates. Each sign in the tables links to our full profile of the Moon in that sign.

The nicknames — Buck, Sturgeon, Harvest — are almanac folklore, North American seasonal names for each month’s full moon. They carry no astrological weight, but since half the internet searches for them, they’re in the table. (The Harvest Moon is simply whichever full moon lands closest to the September equinox; in 2026 that’s September 26, in 2027 September 15.)

The eclipses hiding in this table

Roughly twice a year, for about a month at a time, the lunations line up with the Moon’s nodes — the points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the Sun’s path — and ordinary new and full moons sharpen into eclipses. Three eclipse seasons fall inside this calendar:

  • August 2026. The total solar eclipse of August 12 — the one crossing Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain — is this table’s Leo new moon, followed by a partial lunar eclipse at the Pisces full moon on August 28. We’ve written a full guide to that pair.
  • February 2027. An annular “ring of fire” solar eclipse on February 6 (visible from the southern Atlantic, coastal South America and West Africa), with a subtle penumbral lunar eclipse a fortnight later.
  • July–August 2027. The heavyweight: the total solar eclipse of August 2, 2027, with over six minutes of totality near Luxor — the longest land totality of the century — on a path through southern Spain, North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula; we’ve broken it down city by city. It is flanked by penumbral lunar eclipses on July 18 and August 17. (Penumbral means the Moon only crosses Earth’s outer shadow — astronomically real, visually a faint shading.)

Astrologically, eclipses are read as lunations with the volume turned up: new moons that start chapters rather than paragraphs, full moons whose reveals feel less optional. If an eclipse lands within a degree or two of something in your chart, it tends to be the one lunation that year you actually remember.

Two moons of the same sign, and other quirks

Calendars like this one reward a close look. Notice the full moons of April 20 and May 20, 2027: both in Scorpio — the first at 1°, the second at 29°. When a full moon lands right at the edge of a sign, the next one can fall in the same sign a month later, and that sign’s themes get an unusual double exposure. Notice also how the new moons drift backward through the degrees — 22° of Cancer in July 2026, 12° of Cancer a year later — the slow clockwork that eventually produces eclipses in new signs.

And if you only mark one date for atmosphere: Christmas Eve 2026 carries a full moon in Cancer, the Moon’s own sign — home, family, feelings at high tide, precisely on the night half the world sits down to dinner with relatives.

How to actually use a lunation

The sign gives every lunation its public flavour, and our Moon placement profiles tell you what each register feels like. But the private meaning — why one full moon rearranges your week while the next passes unnoticed — comes from your chart. Each lunation lands in one of your twelve houses, and the house names the life area on the desk: a new moon in your second is about money and worth; the same new moon in someone else’s seventh is about their marriage.

So the practical recipe is short. Check the table for the sign; read the sign’s register; then run your birth chart — free, in the browser, no account — and see which house 22° of Cancer actually falls in for you. If you were born under a full moon or a new moon yourself, that’s visible in the chart too, as the angle between your Sun and Moon — the difference between the two is its own story. For the day-to-day weather between lunations, the horoscope tracks the Moon’s sign as it goes.
